When a document needs more than one signature, you have a choice: send it to everyone at once, or route it in a strict order where each signer unlocks the next. Both are one toggle in Lucid Signing. Choosing well is about the document, not the default.
Parallel: everyone at once
In parallel signing, every recipient gets their link at the same time and can sign whenever they like. It is the fastest route to a completed document, and it is the right choice when signatures are independent - a mutual NDA, a set of consent forms, a document where no one’s signature depends on anyone else’s.
Sequential: one after another
In sequential signing, the document travels down a chain. Recipient two only receives it once recipient one has signed. This protects you when order carries meaning:
- Internal review before an external counterparty ever sees it.
- A junior signer whose signature should follow a manager’s approval.
- A director who should sign last, once every other party is committed.
How to choose
Ask one question: does anyone need to see a prior signature before they add their own? If yes, go sequential and accept the extra time. If no, go parallel and get it done. And because it is set per document, you are never locked into one habit - the right answer can differ for the very next contract.
